whoo!

If We Only Understood.

If we knew the cares and trials,
Knew the efforts all in vain,
And the bitter disappointments,
Understood the loss and gain-
Would the grim eternal roughness
Seem-I wonder-just the same?
Should we help where we hinder?
Should we pity where we blame?
Ah, we judge each other harshly,
Knowing not life's hidden force;
Knowing not the fount of action
Is less turbid at its source;
Seeing not amid the evil
All the golden grains of good.
And we'd love each other better,
If only we understood.
Could we judge all deeds by motives
That surrounds each other's lives,
See the naked heart and spirit,
Know what spur the action gives,
Often we should find it better,
Purer than we judge we would,
We should love each other better,
If only we understood.

Benevolence.

A little more kindness and a little less creed;
A little more giving and a little less greed;
A little more smile and a little less frown;
A little less kicking a man when he's down;
A little more "we" and a little less "I";
A little more laugh and a little less cry;
A little more flowers on the pathway of life;
A fewer on the graves at the end of the strife.

Time.

Lots of time for lots of things;
Tho it's said that Time has wings,
There is always time to find
Ways of being sweet and kind;
There is always time to share
Smiles and goodness everywhere;
Time to send the frowns away,
Time a gentle word to say;
Time for helpfulness, and time
To assist the weak to climb;
Time to give a little flower,
Time for friendship any hour;
But there is no time to spare
For unkindness anywhere.

Give them the flowers now.

Closed eyes can't see the white roses,
Cold hands can't hold them, you know,
Breath that is still cannot gather
The odors that sweet from them blows,
Death, with a peace beyond dreaming,
Its children of earth doth endow:
Life is the time we can help them,
So give them the flowers now!
Just a kind word or greeting;
Just a warm grasp or a smile-
These are the flowers that will lighten
The burdens for many a mile.
After the journey is over
What is the use of them; how
Can they carry them who must be carried?
Oh, give them the flowers now!

Example.

I'd rather see a sermon
Than hear one any day
I rather you would walk with me
Than merely show the way
And the lectures you deliver might
Be very wise and true
But I think I'll get my lesson
By observing what you do
Because I might misunderstand you
And all this high advice you give
But there is no misunderstanding
How you act and how you live.

Don't Quit.

When things go wrong, as they sometiems will,
Whent he road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must - but dont you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When you might have won had you stuck it out;
Dont give up, though the pace seems slow-
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering person
Often the struggler has given up
When you might have captured the victor's cup.
And you learned too late, when the night slipped down,
How close you were to the golden crown.
Success is a failure turned inside out-
The silver tint of the clouds in doubt,
And you can never tell how close you are;
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

Be the best at whatever you are.

If you cant be a pine at the top of the hill,
Be a shrub in the valley-But be the best little
shrub this side of the hill;
Be a bush if you cannot be a tree.
If you can't be a bush, be a bit of the grass-
some highway happier make;
If you cant be a muskie, then just be a bass,
but the liveliest bass in the lake.
We can't all be captains, we've got to be a crew,
There's something for all of us here,
There's big work to do, and there's lesser to do,
and the task we must do is the near.
If you can't be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can't be the sun,be a star;
It isn't by size that you win or fail-
Be the best at whatever you are.

Attitude.

One ship sails east and anotehr west
while the self-same breezes blow.
"tis the set of the sail and not the gale
that bids them where they go.
As the winds of the air are the ways of fate
as we voyage along through life.
"Tis the set of the soul that decides our goal
and not the storm and strife."

Twixt the optimist and the pessimist,
The difference is droll:
The optimist sees the doughnut,
But the pessimist sees the hole.

Everything in life
Is what you make it. . .
It's not what is that counts,
It's how you take it.

To those who talk and talk and talk,
This adage should appeal;
The stream that blows the whistle
Will never turn the wheel.

If I knew you.

If i knew you and you knew me;
if both of us could clearly see,
And with an inner sight divine,
the meaning of your heart and mine.
I'm sure that we should differ less;
And clasp our hands in friendliness;
Our thoughts would pleasantly agree,
If I knew you and you knew me.
If i knew you and you knew me,
as each one knows his ownself,we
Could look each other in the face,
and see therein a truer grace.
Life has so many hidden woes,
So many thorns for every rose,
The " Why" of things our hearts would see
If i knew you and you knew me.

Self-Talk.

Did is a word of achievement,
Won't is a word of rereat,
Might is a word of bereavement,
Can't is a word of defeat,
Ought is a word of duty,
Try is a word each hour,
Will is a word of beauty,
Can is a word of Power.

Measure of a person.

Not-"how did they die?"
But-"how did they live?"
Not-"what did they gain?"
But-"what did they give?"
These are the units
To measure the worth
Of a person as a person
Regardless of birth.

Present, The.

During all the years since time began,
Today has been the friend of man;
But in his blindness and his sorrow
He looks to yesterday and tomorrow,
Forget past trials and your sorrow.
There was, but is, no yesterday,
And there may be no tomorrow.

Less of me.

Let me be a little kinder,
Let me be a little blinder,
To the faults of those about me,
Let me praise a little more;
Let me be when I am weary
Just a little but more cheery-
Let me serve a little bit better
Those that i am striving for.
Let me be a little braver
When temptation bids me waver,
Let me strive a little harder
To be all that I should be;
Let me be a little meeker
With the brother who is weaker
Let me think more of my neighbour,
And a little less of me.

The Starting Point.

If you want to be happy, begin where you are.
Don't wait for some rapture that's future and far.
Begin to be joyous, begin to be glad,
And soon you'll forget that you ever were sad.
If you want to be happy, begin where you are.
Your windows to sunlight and sweetness unbar;
If dark seems the day, light a candle of cheer,
Till its steady flame brightens each heart that
comes nearer.
If you want to be happy, begin where you are.
Tune up daily discords, till out of their jar
New harmony rises, rejoicing and sweet,
And onward, in music, go ever your feet.
If you want to be happy, begin where you are.
God sets in each sky Heaven's joy-bringing star.
Live bravely beneath it, through cloud and
toward light.
And under its radiance your path shall be bright.

Self -Inportance.

Sometime, when you're feeling important,
Sometime, when your ego's in bloom,
Sometime when you take it for granted,
You're the best qualified in the room.
Sometime when you feel that your going,
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow this simple instruction,
And see how it humbles your soul.
Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it, up to the wrist,
Pull it out, and the hole that's remaining,
Is a measure of how you'll be missed.
You may splash all you please when you enter,
You can stir up the water galore,
But stop, and you'll find in a minute,
That is looks quite the same as before.
The moral in this quaint example
Is do just the best that you can.
Be proud of yourself, but remember,
There is no indispensable one.

-The easiest way to teach children the value of money is to borrow some from them.

-Disciplin doesn't break a child's spirit half as often as the lack of it breaks a parent's heart.

-Parents who are afraid to put their foot down usually have children who step on their toes.

-Parents wonder why the streams are bitter when they themselves have poisoned the fountain.

-Children who avoid the mistakes their parents made often make the mistakes their parents avoid.

-One of the first things one notices in a backward country is that children are still obeying their parents.
